As a Tyrolean family-owned company, PLANLICHT has been internationally recognized for nearly 40 years for high-quality architectural lighting solutions and exceptional service standards. With production facilities in Tyrolean Vomp and Murau in Styria, the technology expert provides optimal lighting for a wide range of applications—from residential and hospitality to retail spaces, exhibition rooms, offices, schools, and kindergartens.
In PLANLICHT’s mission, social and ecological responsibility, as well as value creation in Austria, are firmly anchored. Consequently, sustainability is also given great importance.
Felicitas Kohler, CEO of PLANLICHT & PLANLICHT GROUP, emphasizes that sustainability is not just a buzzword for the company. Instead, it is a central aspect of the philosophy of PLANLICHT and the entire PLANLICHT GROUP, grounded in the three pillars of responsible action: environment, human/social, and economy.
The commitment to sustainability extends far beyond merely reducing energy consumption. PLANLICHT’s lighting solutions— all based on the latest LED technology—are distinguished not only by their exceptional quality and product longevity but also by their environmental considerations, including eco-friendly packaging and minimised delivery routes.
In early 2023, PLANFACTORY, a nearly CO2-neutral production site in Murau, Styria, was put into operation. It supplies the majority of the required pre-products and technologies for manufacturing high-quality luminaires and lighting systems. This facility, which is also part of the PLANLICHT GROUP, stands out for its maximum building efficiency and energy generation from renewable sources, including a photovoltaic system, an in-house wood chip plant, and green electricity from local hydropower.
At PLANLICHT, sustainability is also at the forefront when it comes to product innovations. Recently, a sustainable series of profile luminaires called the “green line” was introduced. This new product line utilizes eco-friendly “Hydro REDUXA” aluminum, known as “Low Carbon” aluminum, which has a significantly lower carbon footprint due to the use of renewable energy sources and advanced electrolysis technology.

The Profile luminaires with a reduced CO2 footprint
PLANLICHT also emphasizes sustainability in the materials used for lighting production. The new green line utilizes the eco-friendly “Hydro REDUXA” aluminum: “Low Carbon” aluminum that features a reduced carbon footprint.
By employing renewable energy sources such as hydropower, wind, and solar energy, combined with highly efficient electrolytic technology, the production of Hydro REDUXA releases a maximum of 4.0 kg CO2 per kg of aluminum. This is only a quarter of the global average and represents a significant step towards a more sustainable future.
Not only is Hydro REDUXA verified by DNV-GL according to ISO 14064, but it is also confirmed by an Environmental Product Declaration.
This reflects a conscious, environmentally friendly material choice for a sustainable future.

“IN STYRIA’S GREEN EMBRACE”
The PLANFACTORY in Murau, Styria, sets new standards for environmentally conscious production. As a member of the PLANLICHT GROUP, it combines cutting-edge technology with sustainable practices and aims to operate CO2-neutrally. The production site has been in operation since January 2023, demonstrating how ecological responsibility and high product quality can coexist harmoniously.
“Green” Energy Supply | The PLANFACTORY utilizes a powerful photovoltaic system that generates approximately 200 kilowatts of electrical energy to meet the majority of its energy needs. If solar energy is insufficient, the facility relies on green electricity from regional hydropower. This ensures a sustainable and nearly self-sufficient energy supply, completely replacing fossil fuels.
Efficient Heat Utilization | For process heat and heating energy, the PLANFACTORY uses an in-house wood chip heating system, which, combined with a concrete core activation building heating system, offers maximum energy efficiency. All production machinery is equipped with heat recovery systems to minimize energy loss and further reduce resource consumption.
Environmentally Friendly Production Processes | The entire equipment of the PLANFACTORY is selected according to the highest standards of energy efficiency. This significantly reduces the ecological footprint while simultaneously ensuring responsible manufacturing of quality products. The PLANFACTORY offers comprehensive solutions in sheet metal processing, powder coating, and cable assembly, and takes pride in supporting demanding clients with sustainable production solutions as a local partner.

Beyond the ecological and economic aspects of sustainability, PLANLICHT has been recognized for years as an expert in Human Centric Lighting. This holistic lighting concept places the human being and their needs at the centre of light design.
While optimal lighting in the early morning activates the human body, it enhances concentration during the day and creates a relaxing atmosphere in the evening. PLANLICHT’s intelligent lighting solutions achieve this effect by adjusting not only the light intensity but also the light temperature to suit each situation.
PLANLICHT was one of the first manufacturers to equip its entire product range with Human Centric Lighting functions. In offices where extended work hours are common, the use of HCL technology has been scientifically proven to improve concentration and well-being.
This consistent focus on human needs extends beyond just lighting at PLANLICHT. The company also produces custom acoustic lighting and panels at its headquarters. The natural insulating materials used in these products—such as hay and sheep wool—filter out disruptive ambient noises, transforming any open-plan office into a quiet workspace.

AN UPGRADE FOR YOUR LUMINAIRES
REFURBISHMENT KIT FOR PURE 1 & 2
For the pure 1 & 2 profile luminaires (directly emitting), which were previously used in many projects with conventional fluorescent lamps and have been replaced by the next generation—pure 3—LED refurbishment kits are available.
These kits offer a complete transformation by replacing existing components with an LED retrofit luminaire insert, through-wiring, and an LED diffuser. The upgrade delivers significant benefits: extended lifespan, enhanced visual comfort, superior energy efficiency, and lower energy costs.
